There is a series of trails in the Madison Area, if you were to stay at the Super 8 Madison South you could catch the Cannonball Path which intersects the Badger State Trail near the northern terminus. I cannot vouch for the Super 8 as far as comfort and quality, it is listed at 4 stars. It looks to be around 3 miles from the motel to the Badger State Trail, and the Cannonball Path is paved and smooth.
