Visited with a tour group. Katy, from The Mammoth Site, is an excellent person to tell you about what is happening in the pit. "The pit" is where they continue to search for bones from centuries ag… Full review by dlmsighx1

Very well organized with an easily accessible tour if you have a phone. The dig is a work in progress - and is still discovering new fossils. Definitely worth a visit! Full review by jessicak756

We were blown away by this spot, as we were under the impression there was only a few mammoth remains - try 60+ mammoths in entirety all found in this single location! Full review by dunc_webb
Mammoth dig site & Evans plunge. Can be done in the same day? Enjoyable for 2 adults & a 12yr old boy? How much time you think for both activities? Anything else near by that's a "must do?"

One day will cover it all. At Mammoth site there is a video, active dig with phone or print tour, ice age exhibit, gift shop, A twelve year old boy should love the kid's dig. Evans plunge is an indoor and outdoor naturally warm pool with water slides, swing rings and basketball. Also hot tub, sauna, steam room, and snack bar. The rings and slides don't open until 10:00, but the rest of the pool is available earlier. I also recommend for a 12 year old boy Cascade Falls Park: a few miles outside Hot Springs for hiking and swimming.
depends upon what you are interested in. My hubby is a geologist so we spent about 2 hours there. but most could probably get by with an hour, give or take a little bit more time.
My family is getting together in SD this August. There is much to see and do, however, there are no children. Is this geared towards kids? Would adults be bored?
