Weeks after four people died and nine people were injured in a school shooting northeast of Atlanta, a group of elementary school students carried signs into the Georgia Capitol Thursday as lawmakers discussed legislation that would incentivize safe gun storage.

Metro Atlanta students are planning a protest in support of stronger gun laws, but school districts say the protestors could face consequences for their actions.

Across the state, students held a walkout to the Georgia State Capitol to protest gun laws after the shooting at Apalachee High School. In Atlanta, school administrators accompanied the students. Students had signed permission slips from their parents that allowed them to join the protest.

Some metro Atlanta students walked out of their schools Thursday morning and straight to the state capitol. It’s all in a push for stricter gun laws following the Apalachee High School shooting. About 30 students and 14 chaperones from the Morgan Oliver School made their voices heard to lawmakers with their parents’ permission.
