Disparate sources including Newsweek, a syndicate service serving Fox local affiliates, and The New York Post put out lists of Democratic presidential contenders last week. The only four names that appeared on each were: Shapiro, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Donald J. Trump has won the presidency, improving upon his 2020 performance in both red and blue states and capturing enough swing states to reach 270 Electoral College votes. Millions of votes are still being counted, especially in Western states, where tabulation is expected to take days or weeks to complete.
